We are pleased to announce that the second issue of our Social Works? Open journal is now available to buy! Social Works? Open is Axis’s artist-led journal for and about social practice art in the UK and beyond and this edition is presented by Social Art Library in partnership with Social Art Publications!
It’s been a long time in the making, but there’s tons of great, original content for you to read, written by artists working with ideas of ‘the social’.
Contributors for the second edition include:
Anneka French, Hannah Gaunt / The Turnpike, Anahi Saravia Herrera, Sophie Huckfield, Sarah Jury, Lucy Lound, Dana Olarescu, Gavin Rogers, Alix Rothnie, Melody J Sproates, Kenn Taylor, Madinah Farhannah Thompson and Georgina Tyson.
We are an independent arts charity, committed to paying artists fairly for the work they do. Each copy of Social Works? Open that we sell helps to support future issues and enables us to commission further artists.
Also, in addition to the print journal there's also Social Works? Open Digital, featuring *18 more* digital contributions. You can read this now, free of charge by hitting the link here: https://www.socialartlibrary.org/digital-journal

OPEN DOORS is a collaborative project between The Uncultured and East Street Arts as part of Guild. It is exploring the barriers that artist-led spaces face in achieving and maintaining sustainability. They are collecting data from artists and arts workers who identify as part of an artist-led space.
If you have a studio or space that you do not consider to be artist-led, or if you do not currently have a studio, you can still fill in some of the questions that should appear as relevant to you as comparative data will still be very useful for us. The deadline for completing the survey is 24 October 2021.
For #Five2Watch this week we've selected five artists who have explored notions of home within their work: Fay Ballard, Hana Sakuma, Michele Lazenby, Lyndsay Martin and Stuart Robinson.
New Art Highlights of the week includes: Denise Startin, Sue Mann, Lucy Bevin and Martyn Lucas.
