Five2Watch: Clothing

For #Five2Watch this week we've selected five artists who have explored clothing as part of their practice: Bridget Harvey, Clare Petherick, Josie Beszant, Linda Hubbard and Julie Parker

Helmet, 2012

Bridget Harvey

This helmet is made from small oblong beads of oak (offcuts from a shop build cut down). Hand cut, drilled, printed and painted, the beads represent the double stitching and flexibility of a quilted firefighters helmet at the Japanese Folk Craft Museum, seen while undertaking a research residency in Tokyo. The white ends represent the painted ends of beams of temples seen there. The beaded object and original quilted helmet, both stitched together and made from flammable materials, show both protection and danger, safety and fragility. This helmet was exhibited at the Japanese Embassy, London, in May 2012.
