In 2011, Sheffield’s Bank Street Arts invited a diverse group of photographers to respond to nothing more than an 11-word brief: The Motorway Service Station as a Destination in its Own Right – the evocative title of a volume of poems by celebrated British poet and Bank Street Arts patron Simon Armitage. Some chose to work using the title alone as a starting point, navigating maps of their own design, while others explored connections they’d made with Simon’s poems.

The result is an intriguing exhibition of contemporary photography, inspired by the same source but producing a very different set of responses.
