Born in 1958 I live, work and study in Surrey.  I am currently studying for a Fine Art MA but up until 2016 had little knowledge or experience of contemporary fine art.  While studying for my BA Fine Art (Hons) I quickly assimilated ideas and concepts which soon became reflected in my collage work.  My collages contain themes of the everyday and nature using my own and found images. The metamorphoses of the images and the materials create works which are often 3d and sculptural and contain the intertwining of pattern, shape and colour to create opposing perspectives.

The work looks at the complex connections and associations we have with our surroundings.  It teases out the layers of information that are contained in a single viewpoint or image and recombines them speculatively.  It looks in depth,  beyond what is physically possible and at underlying constructs of things which are familiar to us. The collages offer the potential of being all encompassing and boundless allowing alternate routes to be taken.

The conventional view we have of things and how we communicate with them is challenged in the work which is influenced by Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter; in which she asks the viewer to envisage creating a new way of looking at the world.  A view which does away with the hierarchical idea that humans are the only agents on the planet.  The work embodies Jane Bennett’s idea that we are all interconnected as humans and with our environment.  All things (human, living, non-human and non-living) are made up of several parts each part working to maintain a whole and to stay connected to other parts this can be seen in the collages where each image supports is neighbour through colour, texture and subject matter.  These interlocking networks (or patterns) and interconnection is something that can be found in my collages.  Where each collage is built from found or my own images and from the start every chosen piece of paper and part of image is the deciding factor for the next piece of paper or part of image.

The metamorphosis of the images and the materials create works which can be sculptural creating opposing perspectives.  It looks at the objects that are on the periphery of our vision and investigates the unseen.   The materiality of paper and unexpected similarity between disparate images; the idea that all things are equal and meshed together like jigsaw pieces combined with human interaction between the environment and technology are ideas which underpin the work.  There is an underlying theme of liminality the ethereal idea of limbo, the crossing over between states and the detachment from reality.

The interdisciplinary practice includes installations, screen printing and zine production.
