For the opening of ‘An echo imprinted’ at Wysing Arts Centre in October 2021, I staged ‘In memoriam’ as an opportunity to mark the gathering of a chance community on site and to ask how we can collectively memorialise and remember through objects. Members of the audience were invited to select one of a series of ceramic objects, similar in form to bones or archaeological artefacts, to be buried in a pit in the Wysing grounds. The accompanying words and gestures considered how we commemorate individually and collaboratively, offering a moment for collective pause and reflection.
